Why did the dates change?

In August 2026 the Chief Minister announced a three-day Basant for 12 to 14 March 2027, and the official Code of Conduct listed those dates as tentative. At a meeting on 30 September 2026 she approved a longer, ten-day festival at the turn of the year instead, describing it as a gift to the people of Lahore. Departments were told to prepare early and strengthen safety arrangements compared with the previous festival.

What has not been announced yet

The Lahore district administration will publish a notification with the operational details. Based on 2026, expect it to cover:

  • Daily kite flying hours
  • The legal kite sales window (in 2026 sales opened five days before flying began)
  • No-fly zones and designated locations
  • Traffic and transport arrangements
  • Rules for children under 18

We will update this page and the Basant 2027 news section as soon as it is issued.

Basant 2026: how last year went

Basant returned to Lahore in 2026 for the first time in nearly two decades, running from 6 to 8 February 2026 under the new 2025 law. Kite sales were permitted from 1 to 8 February 2026, under-18s were not allowed to fly, and motorcyclists had to fit safety wires. Basant 2027 builds on that framework with a longer festival.
