The official Basant 2027 traffic plan has not been published yet. What is already announced: Lahore Traffic Police plan to fit safety rods on about 2.3 million motorcycles from 1 January 2027 at 100 camps; bikers without rods will not be allowed into the city; both riders must wear helmets; and motorcycles and Qingqi rickshaws will be barred from red zones during Basant. In 2026, public transport was free and more than 10,000 police were deployed. We will update this page when the plan is released.

What happened in 2026
- More than 10,000 police on duty for the three days, with zero tolerance for aerial firing.
- Control rooms at the Safe City Authority and the commissioner’s office, with CCTV and drones.
- Free Orange Line, Metro Bus, 228 feeder buses on 24 routes and about 5,000 rickshaws.
- Kite flying allowed only on the notified days; more than 1,000 cases against illegal flying in January 2026.
Driving and parking advice
- Avoid driving into the Walled City: lanes are narrow and parking is almost non-existent. Park outside (for example at Greater Iqbal Park) and walk or take a rickshaw.
- Use public transport if it is free again; it is faster than driving on Basant evenings.
- Drive slowly and watch for people looking up at kites and running after them.
- Keep windows up on bikes and cars near flying areas; tie a scarf around your neck on a bike.
- Expect checkpoints at city entry points and around the Walled City.
Never
Never ride a motorcycle without a safety rod during Basant.
Never chase a kite into traffic.
