Desi Sweets and Lassi in Lahore: Mithai, Kulfi and Falooda Shops

For desi sweets in Lahore, head to the Walled City: Rafique Sweets inside Mochi Gate for barfi, Khalifa for nan khatai, Taj Mahal Sweets at Taxali Gate for khoya halwa, and the kulfi shops of Shah Alami. For falooda, go to Old Anarkali (Riaz and Yousaf Falooda). For thick buffalo-milk lassi, go to Gawalmandi. For Basant, bring home something yellow: zarda (sweet saffron rice), besan laddoo or yellow barfi.

Yellow food for Basant

Basant’s colour is yellow, after the mustard fields of spring.

Traditional Basant treats: zarda or meethay chawal (sweet saffron rice), besan laddoo, yellow barfi and kheer with saffron.

Order mithai boxes a day ahead for Basant parties: shops get very busy on the first weekend (30 to 31 January 2027).

Lassi in Lahore

Lahori lassi is thick, made with buffalo milk yoghurt, churned with ice and served in a tall steel or glass mug with a slab of malai (cream) or butter on top. Sweet (meethi) is the classic; salted (namkeen) helps after heavy food. In Gawalmandi, Lakshmi Chowk and the Walled City you will find lassi shops that have been churning for decades.

  • Gawalmandi: the classic lassi lane, with sweet lassi flavoured with cardamom.
  • Walled City: lassi with halwa puri at Taxali and Mochi Gate.
  • Doodh patti and Kashmiri chai: in winter, Model Town D-Block’s tea stalls serve pink Kashmiri chai.
